Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved betting on various card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he played many hours and fail to win most times. He made some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus attention more on poker.
The definite improvement in his abilities happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would often challenge each other. He had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking skills. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker world today. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he made the decision to play more tournaments.
