Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

February 18th, 2020 at 6:25

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While playing web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
