Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
