Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
