Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed participating in different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his father. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and lost most times. He earned some additional cash by becoming an runner for the poker players. He believed he might boost his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The real advancement in his game began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would frequently compete against each other. He was able to access a few of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, he would hone his cunning thinking techniques. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL texas hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
