Omaha Hi Lo: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same approach in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.
