Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

December 25th, 2025 at 20:25

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players in the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world may be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
