Poker is a sport of people participated through the medium of cards. A tell is a pattern that indicates the relative strength of an opponent’s hand. If you participate in online poker, general tells are comprised of gambling patterns and time to react. Real life poker at the brick and mortar betting house provides a greater opportunity to id tells. In addition to time tells and wagering patterns, individuals have body tells. Players commonly telegraph the strength of their hand through body language, eye movements, breathing rates, and the tennor of their voice. Poker is a game of emotion and a majority of individuals cannot control their emotions when cash is involved. In order to identify a tell you need to closely pay attention to your competitors on every single hand. Look for any kind of betting pattern or physical tell that relates to the strength of their hand. If a competitor always takes deep breaths when he has a huge hand, that is a tell for absolute strength. If a challenger consistently bets his weak hands with a flick of his wrist, that’s a tell for absolute weakness.

Tells allow you to see beyond your own cards and into your opponent’s mind. Concentrate on all the things that your opponent does while he places wagers on a pot and try to link each play to a relative strength of their cards. With the opportunity to notice tells on your competitor, the cards really do not matter. If your opponent shows you that they are weak, you will be able to raise them with any hand with the understanding that he will fold. If your competitor shows you that they are strong, you will be able to fold very strong hands. There is a lot more to poker than just the hand you are given. Concentrate on your opponent’s mannerisms and your winnings will skyrocket.
