Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts around the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player.
