Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has increased in popularity so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of players often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in almost every poker game.
A lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
While it seems difficult initially, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha High-Low provides an overwhelming range of betting possibilities and because you have numerous individuals shooting for the high, along with a few trying for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
